Common mistakes when using wax melts & wax burners

Don’t make the mistake of using your wax melts wrong

If you are new to wax melts and wax burners, it can be hard to know what mistakes to avoid. From safety issues to simply not getting the most out of your experience, there are a few common mistakes that people make when using wax melts and wax burners. Below we take a look at some of them.

Not using the right size tea light candle

Only use a four hour tea light candles.  Eight hour Tealights are meant for tealight holders and not for the use of wax melt burners.

This is because the 8-hour tealights will provide too much heat.  Having your wax melt burner on for a long period of time (more than 4 hours) can cause damage to your wax melt burner. It can cause hairline cracks, fractures and even holes may form in the wax melt burner.  Obviously, this is highly dangerous and can be a fire hazard.

Not choosing the right wax

When choosing your wax melts, be sure to choose one that fits your needs. Not understanding how much you need

Its important to understand how much melt you need for each use. Generally speaking, about two cubes per square inch is enough for most standard sized burners. However, if you have a larger burner or are looking for a stronger scent throw then you’ll want to use more. Usually up to four cubes per square inch depending on how powerful you want the fragrance throw to be!

Not planning ahead

When using wax melts and wax burners, it’s important to plan ahead. You should never leave a lit burner unattended or fill it with too much wax. Excessive amounts of wax will cause it to overheat, which is both dangerous and damaging to your burner. Additionally, leaving a lit burner on for too long can cause soot / black marks to buildup on the walls, furniture, carpets, basically anything in the vicinity!
